[Washington D.C., USA, June 21, 2021.] Inflation will rise above the annual forecast of 2.6 percent and the low interest rate will not exceed 0.25 percent in 2021. At the same time, most members of the Chamber of Commerce believe that Swedish companies in the U.S. sell on quality rather than price as the main argument. It shows a survey conducted by the Swedish American Chamber of Commerce in mid-June.

The United States is facing higher prices, low interest rates and a dollar around SEK 8 in the coming year. In any case, this is the opinion of the members of the Swedish American Chamber of Commerce (SACC USA), which participated in the SACC USA Business Survey this early June.

Just over half (44.7%) of those surveyed believe that inflation will land above the forecast level of 2.6 percent in 2021. However, generally higher prices do not have to be to the detriment of Swedish export companies in the U.S., as most Swedish companies sell on quality and not on price, according to six out of ten who responded to the survey. Now that many companies are resuming plans to establish themselves after the pandemic, half of (51.2%) SACC's members believe that a dollar that stabilizes at around SEK 8 can give Swedish companies a push in deciding on a foreign establishment.

“We at SACC also notice an increased activity, with several inquiries from various companies about U.S. establishments. A dollar exchange rate of around SEK 8 naturally provides a little extra traction”, says Johan Marcus, CEO of SACC USA.

Half of those surveyed (49.7%) also believe that the dollar exchange rate in one years will remain at around SEK 8, just as it is today. Just over half (44.7%) also believe that the Fed's low interest rate will not climb above 0.25 percent until 2022. As for the stock market, almost half of (41.7%) SACC USA’s surveyed members believe that Dow Jones Industrial's rise of 7.3 percent in 2020 will be higher by the end of 2021.

“Our members express a rather positive image for the future. I also think it is important to point out that there is room to grow here in the United States. It is a bigger market than the EU's, even though Sweden's exports here are half of that to Europe. So, there is an opportunity to grow here, and now is a good time for that”, says Johan Marcus.

About the SACC USA Business Survey

The SACC USA Business Survey was conducted between June 5-15, 2021. 201 SACC members across the U.S. participated in the web survey which consisted of nine questions. SACC members bring together a dynamic and diverse mix of entrepreneurs, business leaders, investors, and professional experts, as well as representatives of various organizations and academia. SACC USA is represented in 19 locations in 37 states.

We are very happy to announce that Karin Hammar is our new Executive Director at SACC-USA!

Karin has been the Executive Director of the Swedish American Chamber of Commerce of Washington D.C. directing the organization’s work in the greater Washington D.C. metropolitan area. She will be succeeded by Charlotte Kramer. A native of Sweden, Karin has an MSc. from the Gothenburg School of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Gothenburg and the Solvay Brussels School of Economics and Management.

“Karin is a seasoned professional and energetic leader. Her warmth, collegial style, practical approach to problem solving, and a skill for leveraging the Swedish American business community and trade and investment opportunities at large have earned Karin the esteem of our members and Board” said SACC-USA Chairman Michael C. Andersson. “The Board is excited to work with Karin as our new Executive Director and confident that SACC-USA will thrive under her guidance.”

“I am grateful for the Board’s confidence in me and am honored and excited to lead such a strong and admired organization of stellar corporations and individuals, from household brand names to pioneers, from multinationals to start-ups on both sides of the Atlantic. I am especially grateful to Johan Marcus for his guidance before and during the transition. We are very happy to announce that Michael C. Andersson is our new chairman at SACC-USA!

Michael has had a 37-year long career with the Swedish Aerospace and Defense Company Saab. Michael and his family moved to the U.S. in 2011 and since then he has been leading Saab’s efforts to grow their business in North America. With a long standing belief in utilizing networks of knowledgeable and experienced individuals, he feels that SACC-USA’s network of 20 chambers is uniquely positioned. Having been active in both SACC–NY and SACC-DC provides Michael with a good foundation to start from, but he is very eager to gain even more exposure to the many other chambers across the U.S. and to collectively continue strengthening the SACC-USA network.

“I believe it’s going to be a lot of fun to work more broadly with the organization. I understand that every region and chamber has its unique background, challenges and opportunities. We will all benefit from sharing our individual experiences and by ensuring that the entire organization has a thorough understanding of the resources that we collectively have available to us. My experiences from my background both in Sports and Business is consistent – The sum is always stronger than the individual parts! “

“The SACC Network has made significant advances during recent years and I believe we are in a position to take the next step. With our measurable accomplishments, we can move forward based on a lot of credibility!”

    Dear All,

On behalf of SACC Carolinas we hope you are enjoying the summer and staying healthy during these challenging times. Here is a brief update where we are heading in the fall.

I am proud to represent SACC Carolinas with access to our 20 chambers all over the country, connecting business and trade between Sweden and the US.

On October 1, 2020 SACC USA will host an Executive Forum with notable speakers and we anticipate a record number of participants. The theme is “The Forces of Change” which is more relevant than ever. The forum will cover how the COVID 19 outbreak has challenged the way we do business, how innovation might spur a more sustainable future. And since we will be a month away from the Presidential election, we will have a special coverage of the U.S. election where well known politicians will provide their predictions and insights. For more information go to https://www.sacc-usa.org/executive-forum/

Depending on the COVID 19 development, it is likely we will have to live with this situation during the remaining of this year and delay in person events until 2021. However, it is our ambition to initiate relevant webinars or articles on our SACC Carolinas website.

Whatever you and your business is facing, remember that we as a chamber are here for you and your inquiries. Let us know how we can support you.

Stay safe and have a great summer!

    Riber Gustafson
    President of SACC Carolinas
